Overall objective:

Apertio One-NDS is the product that underpins the whole Apertio-One product suite. It is a highly robust open standards directory that sits at the heart of the network to create a single, centralised subscriber repository.

We are looking a software engineer to lead a small team of NDS sustaining engineers in KL. The team is responsible for providing product development support for the region while contributing to the global support effort. The KL team is supported by a group of UK experts as it continues to expand its capabilities and knowledge-base.

The team leader will be required to monitor and report progress against agreed targets and highlight any potential problems in a timely manner. They will be expected to prioritise incoming work based on customer needs and to contribute to the ongoing development of working practices to facilitate multi-site working. The team leader will also be responsible for the career development of the team, ensuring that training needs of individuals are identified and met.

It is likely that successful candidates will have experience of working on large software development or sustaining projects, preferably in a telecoms, database development or enterprise environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Provision of a variety of support and development services for a complex, mission critical software product. External customers include a range of mobile, fixed and convergent network operators, and also a variety of telecommunications equipment manufacturers and systems integrators. Internal customers include the operational support team, support consultants, test teams, product managers, and software development teams within engineering.
• Act as a primary source of knowledge about the product architecture, implementation and usage.
• Troubleshooting of customer problems
• Development of both routine and emergency support patches.
• Development and execution of system tests.
• Development of product enhancements aimed at improved features, improved reliability, supportability and ease of use.
• Management of development team

Person specification:

No mandatory technical requirements but particularly suitable skills are:

• C Programming experience,
• Software development on Unix/Linux OS,
• Database Experience, especially X.500, Directories, DAP and LDAP,
• Software Architectures, especially experience of database applications.
• knowledge of 'real-time' computing
• inter-process communication, TCP/IP communication
• Unix shell scripting
• Focused, independent thinkers, self-starting team-players would be the ideal applicants.

Key skills:

• Software product support
• Strong problem solving skills

• Real-time or complex software product development
• X.500 and LDAP
• Experience of planning work and managing staff.
